The Chief Adviser’s Office has sent a formal letter to the Election Commission requesting the completion of all preparations to hold the upcoming national parliamentary elections before the start of Ramadan in February. With this letter, the government has officially asked the Election Commission to begin preparations for the election. The information was confirmed by the Press Wing of the Chief Adviser’s Office.
In the letter addressed to the Chief Election Commissioner today (Wednesday), Chief Secretary to the Chief Adviser, M. Siraj Uddin Miah, urged the Election Commission to take necessary steps to ensure a free, fair, peaceful, and festive national election within the mentioned timeframe.
This follows Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus’s address to the nation yesterday (Tuesday, August 5), on the occasion of July’s Uprising Day, where he announced that the government would send a letter to the Election Commission requesting elections before Ramadan next year. Today’s letter is the implementation of that announcement.
Referring to the national address, the letter states that the Chief Adviser emphasized the immediate initiation of all preparatory and institutional arrangements. Given that citizens have been unable to vote for the past fifteen years, the Chief Adviser has stressed the importance of making the upcoming election a memorable celebration of democracy.
The letter also highlights the Chief Adviser’s aspirations for the election to become a symbol of joy, peace, discipline, voter engagement, harmony, and sincerity. It underscores the importance of utilizing appropriate technology to conduct a credible, free, peaceful, and festive election. The government has also expressed its full commitment to supporting the Election Commission in this endeavor.
Based on the Chief Adviser’s declaration, the Chief Secretary has formally requested the Election Commission to take all necessary actions to organize the national elections within the stipulated timeframe.
