Tanzim HossainMPO-listed teachers are the backbone of our education system. They quietly spread the light of knowledge and nurture the future generation. Yet the harsh reality is this: those who shape the nation’s future are themselves the most neglected. While the state focuses its attention elsewhere, MPO-listed teachers remain trapped in the shadows of perpetual deprivation.
Far from receiving due honor, they struggle year after year just to secure the bare minimum in salary and allowances. When these teachers, exhausted from the fight to make ends meet, take to the streets, society witnesses a single image—“teachers without rights, education without dignity.” Yet, it is the very generation raised by these teachers that goes on to lead the nation.
The pressing question arises—how long will this neglect continue? If MPO-listed teachers remain deprived, if education is paralyzed by protests, which path will the future of the nation follow? Government indifference destabilizes not only the teachers but the entire education system.
At the grand rally on August 13, MPO-listed teachers made their demands clear: a minimum of 20% house rent allowance based on basic pay, and a medical allowance of 1,500 taka. But so far, no effective decision has been taken. Instead, they have announced that a work stoppage will begin on September 14, with the possibility of even tougher programs if needed.
Will the government now act to increase house rent and medical allowances? A 20% house rent allowance on basic pay and a medical allowance of 1,500 taka are the rightful demands of MPO-listed teachers. Unless action is taken immediately, the flames of protest could burn down the entire education system.
