In a joint operation, the Department of Narcotics Control has arrested a young man with 46 bottles of Indian-made codeine phosphate syrup from Sharifpur Union’s Berigaon Sanjoypur village in Kulaura upazila, Moulvibazar. The detainee has been identified as Abul Hossain Babul (28).

The raid was conducted at around 10:00 am on Monday (August 11) under the leadership of Sub-Inspectors Tajul Islam Bhuiyan and Abul Kalam Azad of the Department of Narcotics Control, along with RAB-9 Srimangal Camp Commander Zia Latiful.

According to the Department of Narcotics Control, officers recovered 46 bottles of Indian brand ‘ESKUP’, manufactured by LABORATE, from a plastic sack at the detainee’s home. Each bottle contained 100 milliliters, amounting to a total of 4,600 milliliters of codeine phosphate syrup.

Sub-Inspector Abul Kalam Azad confirmed the arrest and stated that preliminary interrogation suggests the accused had been involved in bringing such illegal drugs from border areas for local distribution. A case has been filed against him under sections 36(1) and 14(b) of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018 (Amended 2020) at Kulaura Police Station.

Law enforcement officials affirmed that regular operations will continue to prevent the smuggling of Indian-made codeine phosphate and other illegal drugs into Bangladesh through border regions.
