Once a prominent name in the advancement of online journalism in Bangladesh, BD Times News 24 is making a strong comeback with renewed energy.
Launched in 2011 by the late journalist Parvez Elahi and renowned literary figure Syeda Hamida Akter, this bilingual (Bangla & English) news portal quickly gained attention for its fearless investigative reports. In 2020, BD Times News 24 came under the spotlight for a series of in-depth reports exposing corruption. However, these bold publications drew the ire of certain influential political figures, resulting in false cases and attacks, which forced the portal to temporarily shut down.
In March 2021, facing numerous obstacles and mounting pressure, the portal was forced to cease operations entirely. Yet, during its active years, BD Times News 24 surpassed over 10 million readers in total—a remarkable milestone in the history of Bangladesh’s online media.
Now, after years of silence, the portal is set for a trial relaunch in 2025. Joining this new chapter is a highly respected figure — former President of the Bangladesh Journalists’ Association, eminent writer, and columnist Md. Mukaddir Hossain — who will serve as Chief Advisor. His experience and leadership are expected to guide BD Times News 24 into becoming an even bolder and more credible news platform.
In a significant shift, operations will now be based outside the capital — from Kulaura Upazila in Moulvibazar — marking the beginning of a new era for BD Times News 24.
The portal pledges to remain steadfast on the path of truth, serving the public with honest and fearless journalism.
