In a powerful display of youth commitment to social values, over 300 students from Kulaura’s Agrani High School took an oath on Wednesday (August 6) to say no to drugs, juvenile crime, eve-teasing, child marriage, and smartphone addiction. The oath-taking ceremony was organized by the Moulvibazar District Branch of Lal Sabuj Unnayan Sangha, a voluntary development organization.
The event began at 11:00 AM in the school auditorium, where the chief guest unveiled a wall magazine titled “Green Earth”, created by a 7th-grade student.
Following this, a discussion session was held, presided over by the school’s managing committee president Md. Habibur Rahman. The chief guest, Officer-in-Charge of Kulaura Police Station Omar Faruk, addressed the students with a motivational speech.
Special guests included Head Teacher Md. Montaj Ali, Founder and Central President of the organization Kawsar Alam Sohel, journalist Mahfuzur Rahman Shakil, and Kulaura Branch President Azhar Munim Shafin, who joined virtually from the UK.
The program was moderated by the organization’s Event Secretary Redowan. Among the attendees were teachers and journalists including Sanjay Debnath, Senior Teacher Ershad Hossain, Afiya Begum, Phonibhushan Chanda, Noor Islam, Shafiqul Islam Jewel, Sushanta Kumar Bormon, Joyraj Ullah, Mira Sharma, Shimul Mia, Abul Kashem, journalist Mahiuddin Ripon, and other district branch leaders including Talha Amin (President), Ziyad (Vice President), Hammad Nur-E-Sadi (General Secretary), Ifti (Organizing Secretary), Jawad (Joint Organizing Secretary), Tanzil (Finance Secretary), Akib (Publicity Secretary), and members Shabab, Ishraq, Jeet Roy, and Mamun, among others.
During the oath, students pledged to:
- Study regularly and become responsible citizens,
- Always speak the truth,
- Never consume drugs,
- Avoid marriage before the legal age (21 for boys, 18 for girls).
Later that day, the organization distributed free tree saplings to 100 students of Laskarpur Government Primary School in Kulaura. The young students took a patriotic pledge while holding the saplings.
Lal Sabuj Unnayan Sangha has been working for over 14 years by saving from their own lunch money to run awareness programs in schools and colleges across all 64 districts of Bangladesh. Their initiatives include fighting against drug abuse, child marriage, juvenile crime, and other social issues. To date, the organization has reached over 4.3 million students and has distributed more than 600,000 tree saplings nationwide.
